Information for Student Poster Submissions

Overview

The poster session is an opportunity for undergraduates to present results of computing-related research and to discuss it with faculty from a variety of institutions. The research can be about any computer related activity in which the student(s) produced a solution to a problem. The conference will provide a venue for student posters, and a poster session will be scheduled during which attendees will have an opportunity to discuss your work with you. The top posters will receive awards, which will be presented at the conference banquet.  The abstracts of all accepted posters will be printed in a booklet to be distributed at the conference. (Abstracts will not be published in the proceedings of the conference or in the Journal.)

Who can submit?

Any undergraduate at a college or university who has pursued a project in computing.

What to submit?

Submit an abstract describing your research. This abstract should capture the central idea of your research. It should describe the problem you researched, the approach you used, and the major results. If appropriate, include future work and references as well. The abstract should not exceed two printed pages of text, and must include the name of a faculty member as the advisor for the project. You must request that the faculty member submit a short email note supporting your submission. Approach a faculty member who knows you and is familiar with the work as soon as possible to allow them ample time to submit the email.

The abstract should not exceed 300 words. It must include the name of a faculty member as the advisor for the project. You must request that the faculty member submit a short email note supporting your submission. Approach a faculty member who knows you and is familiar with the work as soon as possible to allow them ample time to submit the email.

CONFERENCE REGISTRATION:

It is expected that if the abstract is accepted, that one or more of the student authors will register for the conference and be present at the poster session to describe the research. As mentioned above, the conference has reduced registration for students ($40 which includes conference sessions, breaks, and meals).

Poster Formatting Instructions:

Please follow the instructions below, except that you should use a 10pt font instead of the word-processor default if it is different:

Manuscript Formatting

You will have limited time between paper acceptance notification and final copy submission. Therefore, we recommend that you format your initial submissions according to this format to save yourself time later.

Please note the following differences in the formatting requirements:
    1. On the title page the author information must be followed by a line with "Advisor" and the advisors name and position.
    2. The abstract is limited to 300 words.
    3. Avoid all graphics in the abstract. You have limited room so concentrate on describing your research.
